Pineapple Mayhem Comes to Willow

(0)

Elevate, the junior high ministry of Willow Creek Community Church, launches its biggest outreach event of the year: Pineapple Mayhem. Aimed at middle school kids who are ready for spring but stuck in the dwindling cold of winter, Pineapple Mayhem offers a night of raucous fun,  including gigantic inflatables, a DJ, obstacle course, black-light dodgeball, illusionist Jared Hall, and a BMX aerial stunt show by Outcast.

Elevate students invite lots of friends to Pineapple Mayhem, many of whom have not been to Willow before. “This annual event drew almost 1700 kids last year,” says Elevate Director Scott Rubin, “and the momentum is swelling. It’s a great way to connect with junior high kids right at their level, at a time of year when they are ready to burn off a little energy. And it takes a couple hundred energetic volunteers to pull it all off.”

Volunteers help get kids checked in, run the many activities, and help make middle schoolers feel welcome at Willow Creek.  Interested in a little tropical escape—for a great cause? Sign up to volunteer at pineapplemayhem.com.

Expecting Parents Gathering

Life can feel overwhelming for parents expecting a baby—and even more so, for those adjusting to the changes their new baby brings. The Family Life team at Willow Creek Community Church wants to support new parents during this cherished but challenging life transition. Expecting Parents Gatherings, held on February 20 and 21 at Willow’s South Barrington campus, are designed to help parents better understand how Willow can support them in their role as parents.

“We will explore what Scripture says about the role of parents as the primary spiritual leaders of their home,” says Gail Green, Willow’s children’s pastor for infants and toddlers. “Parents will also be able to tour the infant area of Promiseland [Willow’s children’s ministry for infants through grade 5], get their questions answered, and receive a handout of opportunities—resources and next steps for parents.”

These opportunities include child dedication, Promiseland, and a peacefully appointed Mother’s Room where moms can watch the weekend services on screens while feeding or nursing their infants. willowcreek.org/familylife-tools

Virginity Rocks!

Student Impact, the high school ministry of Willow Creek Community Church, launches a provocative new series this Sunday, February 7. Virginity Rocks, as the name implies, tackles the challenge facing high schoolers today in maintaining sexual purity.

Impact director Shane Farmer offers students a fresh look at what God—the creator of sex—has to say about sexuality. The three week series invites varied perspectives on the topic, through the stories of three very different people—including a porn star turned Christ follower. Sessions include: Interview with a virgin (February 7), Interview with an ex-porn star (February 14), and Interviews with the Opposite Sex (February 21).

Following each Sunday program, students can unpack the day’s topic during discussion with their small group during House Groups, Willow’s off-site gatherings of high school students, which meet in local homes. studentimpact.com
