Willow Creek Welcomed 80,000 to Christmas Services

(7)

Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington welcomed nearly 80,000 to celebrate Christmas at one of the 12 services in South Barrington beginning December 18 and concluding on Christmas Eve. (The service on December 20 was conducted entirely in Spanish.)

Willow services were rich with favorite Christmas carols (accompanied by a 22-piece orchestra), and an inspiring message from Senior Pastor Bill Hybels. Unique to each service was a short (30-minute) original film written, directed, and produced by Willow Creek’s programming team, and scored by a live orchestra. The cast was exclusively local professional actors including Wendy Roby, Karen Aldrege, Richard Cotovsky, and several hundred local extras.

All services were free and open to the public and included sign language, Spanish, Chinese, and Korean translation at select services.

Willow Creek Announces Christmas 2011 Services at South Barrington

At Christmas, Christ followers celebrate the wonder of a child born in the most remarkable yet lowly of circumstances. Barely acknowledged by the people He came to save, the Christ child’s birth was recognized by the wisest of men, greeted by humble shepherds, and hailed by angels in heaven.

But His birth isn’t the end of the story. It was just the beginning.

Hear the rest of the story—a story of new beginnings—at one of Willow Creek’s 12 Christmas Eve services.

Willow Creek Changes Hunger to Hope

By the end of 2011, more than 17,000 individual families will have received food from the Care Center at Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, IL. But at the holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas), guests get something more because Willow provides turkey with the trimmings for 12,000 local families in need.

At the conclusion of each weekend service on November 19 and 20, the congregation will participate in a meal-packing event, assembling boxes that will be handed out prior to the holidays,” said Heather Larson director of Willow’s Compassion & Justice ministry. “Many of us look for opportunities to serve under-resourced families during the holiday season, and there is something significant about standing side-by-side and serving our community together as a united church family.”
