TruthQuest: What the World Believes…and Why

(0)

In the upcoming class, What the World Believes…and Why, Willow Creek Community Church and Dr. Harold Netland offer participants a historical and current analysis of key doctrinal issues facing the major world views of our day. Netland, professor of Philosophy of Religion and Intercultural Studies at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, is a rich resource for those seeking answers to their toughest spiritual questions.

TruthQuest is a quarterly event at Willow Creek's South Barrington campus. In its discussion-based format, intellectually and historically sound dialogue helps participants become well-informed about the Christian faith and other religious worldviews.

“TruthQuest is a safe place where people can ask their toughest faith questions—and find satisfying answers,” says Andy Martin, TruthQuest director. “By far, the most-requested topic from participants is to learn about other worldviews, other religions. This month, with Dr. Netland’s expertise on the subject, we’ve got you covered.”

Since its inception in 1975, Willow Creek has been known as a safe place to ask dangerous questions–the kinds of faith questions that, when left unanswered, become roadblocks to one's spiritual journey. "Willow Creek welcomes healthy, open-minded dialogue with those exploring the complex issues of faith," says Paul Jansen Van Rensburg, director of Spiritual Discovery.

What the World Believes…and Why will be held at 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 30 at Willow Creek's South Barrington campus, located at 67 East Algonquin Road, South Barrington, IL. To register for this free class, go to willowcreek.org/classes.

Willow Creek Believers Take the Plunge

(0)

Hundreds of Christ followers are planning to go public with their faith through the waters of Baptism at the annual outdoor Baptism service of Willow Creek Community Church on Sunday, June 27. “Baptism is an important act of obedience in the life of every believer in Jesus,” says Paul Jansen Van Rensburg, Willow’s director of evangelism. “Jesus Himself set this example by being baptized. For Christ followers, Baptism represents the symbolic act of dying to their old life by going into the water, and then rising again—coming up out of the water—to new life in Christ.”

Willow Creek holds
Baptism services several times throughout the year, most of them indoors in an above-ground pool assembled on the stage of the Main Auditorium. The outdoor Baptism, held in the lake each June on Willow’s South Barrington campus, provides a unique opportunity for the entire congregation to picnic, enjoy the sun, and most importantly, to celebrate with those taking this public step of faith. Last year, more than 700 people were baptized at this service alone, and a total of 1642 were baptized in 2009.
