Willow Creek: Two Cultures Worship as One Church

(0)

On Wednesday, July 21, the Willow Creek congregation in South Barrington engaged in an all-worship night led by Hector Hermosillo and the Casa de Luz worship team.  Integrating both Spanish and English into one worship service with lyrics posted in both English and Spanish, the congregation sang, lifted hands, and prayed together.  The Lakeside Auditorium, filled to capacity with a diverse audience, gathered in a summer worship experience as one church lifting voices to one God.

Hector Hermosillo is the pastor of Casa de Luz, Willow Creek's Spanish-speaking community with weekend services on Sundays at 1:30 p.m.

Casa de Luz Moves to a New Time

Casa de Luz, Willow Creek’s Spanish-language church, moves weekend services to 1:30 p.m. on Sundays beginning January 10.

God’s community isn’t all one color and doesn’t just speak English. No matter what language people speak or what they look like, Willow Creek wants them to feel welcome.

The Spanish-language services expanded to include a second weekend service and attendance has grown to approximately 500 people each weekend. One of Willow Creek’s 12 Christmas services in 2009 included one service conducted entirely in Spanish. More than 5,200 people attended.

Casa de Luz, which means "House of Light" is pastored by Hector Hermosillo. Hermosillo is well-known to most Spanish-speaking people—not as a pastor, but as a musician. Prior to his arrival at Willow Creek in July, 2006, he was lead guitarist for Luis Miguel and founder and music director of Torre Fuerte (Strong Tower), a Christian band. More recently, he has co-hosted Club 700 Hoy with Amaralis Rivera.

The 1:30 p.m. service for Casa de Luz will now meet in Willow Creek’s 2000-seat Lakeside Auditorium.
